Karimunjawa in a few

open island blues first…

Two and a half hours to Semarang, another three to Jepara because it’s dark and the road is bad. Take speed boat from Jepara for two hours, sleep in the sun on the boat and then wake up in my first paradise island. Blues like never seen before, small line of palm trees with some houses, I can see the dock getting bigger. 5 days was enough for me to get the main island from the 27 set. I had rainy days and a lot of sun. Small mountain and diving, boats, mangrove and palm trees, small houses, big houses, locals, families, some mosques and a lot of fish. To go around the island with a motorbike it would take between one and two hours, maybe a whole day to see everything without rush. Very silent mostly during the day and late at night, when the fisherman are off or away, kids playing football on the huge field at the end of the village, surrounded by ocean and island in the horizon. A storm is coming and the air gets even more slower, almost frozen. The sun is at dusk, lots of red and blue colors paint the violet sky.
Empty mind, oh
empty mind
huge sky, small island and a line
white on red, fiery paint spilled by children
sound like small waves, azan and a generator
the skin is unprepared for the air this evening
because the air this evening is warm and cold and playing around
Karimunjawa
Night is coming with storm in the deep, filling clouds with lightning for more than an hour as we sat down, speechless watching it discharge. White dots, white fading spills and striking Picasso lines hitting the horizontals. Think it may rain.
Lonely islands, bluest deeps, whitest light, lightest sand and old boats. One hour market every morning at five, cheap fresh fish and many others, Dutch sailor here for 8 years, tall, blond with huge beard, in his fifties, driving a light blue noisy Vespa, wearing white and breading fish. Maybe lost. The whole time I felt like in my childhood at my grandmother’s countryside. Simple people with simple houses, nothing to do than lose the time.
